Bradstone have taken a romantic approach to this year’s
Chelsea Flower Show with a “Lovers’ Retreat” garden that features
new products from the 2003 range and a number of new plant
varieties never seen before in the UK.
The garden features Bradstone’s
Gironde paving, which has a pale limestone
effect, ideal for creating a light, airy space. Balustrading from
the
Bradstone Structural range lines the sweeping
stairs whilst the walling creates a private feel. Waterfalls add to
the ambience, flowing into two pools.
Bradstone wanted a design which would inspire people to try
the ideas for themselves, and reproduce them in their own gardens.
Lovers’ Retreat provides an exciting showcase for the products and
effectively uses products to provide both a romantic and
inspirational setting.
Designer David Domoney commented “Many of the most memorable
scenes from our greatest love stories are inspired by a romantic
garden meeting. I’ve aimed to encapsulate the true essence of a
classical romantic setting with a cascading garden, which
demonstrates how to evoke a certain mood with a flowing movement of
plants, stone and water. I would like people to mentally walk into
the garden and experience a special moment in time.
The passionate planting combines hardy and bedding plants to
create a striking enclosure of colour, texture and shape through
foliage and flower. The stonework consists of sweeping twinned
staircases connecting all three paved levels of the garden. To
introduce flowing animation and natural sound in the midst of
tranquility, I added water as the moving heart of the garden with
two spectacular waterfalls.
I hope the design of this garden demonstrates the power of the
right ambience on affairs of the heart”.
