This garden explores how a couple who have moved house can make their own mark in an already beautiful established garden, by introducing contemporary designs, materials and modern landscaping. The finishing touches include stunning planting that sits comfortably alongside the established planting.

To achieve his vision, designer Alan Sargent has well-established plants and trees forming the outside edge of his garden and the centre incorporating contemporary boulders, striking planting and a spring running through the garden with three streams merging and eventually flowing into a still pond.

Towering over the garden are five impressive acers, aged between 50 and 100 years old.

Originally part of a larger garden built within a rocky landscape with natural springs, the Bradstone garden is set within a garden which was originally created in the 1960s. it has been redesigned for a new owner to incorporate an area of Old Town paving and paths and steps for improved access. New plants have been added and a boundary has been established.

The springs have been bridged to gain maximum use of the area and a part of the rock has been hewn to create a table. Other rocks have been shaped into seats as practical and fun features.

The main feature plants are mature acers, with dwarf pines affording winter interest. A steel pergola and planters bring the garden into the 21st century without detracting from the original layout.
