Victorian Town House

Victorian Town House

Possibly the largest proportion of houses in the UK are the traditional Victorian red brick house.  With modest decoration over doors and windows these houses are typified by bay windows, slate roofs and simple decoration.

Create the look

Perhaps one the greatest pleasures of the Victorian red brick house is they are such a canvas for personalisation. Where Georgian and the much later 1930’s house dictate so much of their styling, the Victorian house allows you to take creative control.

Paving can range from highly decorated mosaics to herringbone brickwork paths or simple traditional paving shapes.  Colours can be selected from the red of the brick, deep purples & greens of the slates or the buttery yellow’s of the decorated lintel stones.

Because the Victorians were such collectors and explorers, gardens are open to the world. If you fancy a lush exotic feeling oasis or a simple cottage garden filled with roses and campanulas then these houses really do suit all tastes.  If anything the main consideration is the marriage of the hard landscaping you select and the planting.

Dark paving always suits tropical or exotic feeling planting such as hardy Banana’s, succulents and rich hot colours where soft yellows, brick on edge and rustic details such as cobbles, riven paving and stepping stones suit gardens richly planted with lavender, rosemary, hollyhocks and roses.
